I’ve always said I much prefer an opinionated, even snarky gal to a boring, sweet and nice one. I’m a sucker for ladies who aren’t afraid to share their perspectives in a loud and sassy way. And I love a fellow potty mouth. Enter Erica. She’s a fellow New Yorker and the genius behind two stellar blogs. The first is F’d in Park Slope which both celebrates and pokes fun of the neighborhood everyone loves to hate (Erica is a proud Park Sloper). And she’s also behind Design Blahg, an approachable design blog with a wicked sense of humor. I love this woman. She makes me laugh and if you can make me laugh, I am yours for life. So, there you have it Erica, I’m yours. And I’m available for wine drinking and shit talking anytime.

Blogger Crush: Laura from Smith & Ratliff

Ay yi yi. It has been an awful long time since I’ve posted a blogger crush. But we have a good one today, and if that weren’t enough blogger crush features now have an updated look, to boot. Things are exciting around here that’s for sure. So I meet Laura from Smith & Ratliff back in October because she was one of the guests at the NYC bloggers dessert party that was at my apartment. I instantly liked her. She has a good, relaxed energy and she’s one of those people you are immediately comfortable with. Plus, she brought this amazing pine nut star anise pie, which incidentally ended up being voted the favorite dessert of the afternoon. So it should come as no surprise that Laura is one half of the gorgeous blog Smith & Ratliff. The blog is a joint venture that Laura writes with her boyfriend Ryan. It beautifully documents their life in the West Village (represent!) and is a love letter to all of their favorite things; food, art, New York, cocktails and travel. It oozes coolness and style and you will find yourself wishing you could give their life a spin for a few days. But since that seems rather impossible, reading their badass blog will have to do. Homebodiness

I’m not what you would call a homebody. I’m an out-and-about sort of lady, but I do love my apartment. It’s cozy and cute and it’s home. Sometimes when I come in from the cold I can’t help but smile because feel so happy and content to be within these walls of mine. I wish I could have each of y’all over for treats and chatting. Wouldn’t that be just awesome? In lieu of that here’s the next best thing; some beautiful pictures of my place that my photog pal Katie Murphy took at the blogger’s dessert party I co-hosted with Natalie last month. I know I’ve probably talked about this party enough, but theses pictures are too lovely not to share.

Paper Crush: Farewell Paperie

I first met Lisa and Jen, the lovely ladies behind Farewell Paperie, last March at my friend Molly‘s wedding. We were seated at the same table and immediately had tons to talk about. Besides a love of all things design and paper related, we also share a common background in advertising. Needless to say, we hit it off immediately. And then last week I received this adorable card in the mail from Jen congratulating me on the pounds that I’ve recently shed. It was such a fantastically sweet gesture. Don’t you just love those little surprises that catch you off guard and make you smile? So thank you, Jen. I’m thinking this is a gentle nudge from the universe reminding me (and by proxy all of you) to send a little card to someone who doesn’t expect it. Let’s all do it, shall we? Here’s some of my faves from the Farewell Paperie shop to get you started.

I fancy myself to be sort of a sassy gal so this card speak to me. Plus I love the purple ink with the mint envelope.

The weekend weather forecast seems to be a lot of rain AND I have to work all weekend so this Friday isn’t exactly awesome. But that’s okay, friends. One thing about freelance is it makes you hate working on the weekend so much less. At least I’ll be getting paid for my weekend sacrifice. Of course I’m still bummed. Here’s some things I’d rather be doing this weekend:

-get a mani/pedi
-sleep late and eat brunch here
-take a long walk with that new boy (preferably while holding hands)
-go shopping in soho (I miss you, anthropologie and jcrew! It has been too long)
-hit up the greenmarket

And who knows, maybe some of these things will still happen. The good news is there is always time for happy hour in this gal’s life. What do you have on tap? Whatever it is I hope it’s fabulous. See you on the other side. xo

Y’all. Somehow in between this new freelance gig and all this time I’m spending with my new man, I totally missed my seven year anniversary of moving to NYC. Whaa?! Holy shit where did the time go?! They say that after 5 years this city is in your blood. Oh my I think they may be right. Somehow, in those seven years, this town became my home. It makes me crazy sometimes, but there’s nothing like New York.

Blogger Crush: Karey from Mackin Ink

It’s been too long. I have neglected the blogger crush series and for that I am sorry. I have no real excuse other than it’s summer and I’ve been feeling so lounge-y and care free and I just haven’t even been organized enough to pull one of these together. So please accept my apology, friends. Lucky for you (and me) the blogger crush I’m featuring today more than makes up for my slackerish nature as of late. Enter Karey of mackin ink. She is quite crush-worthy. I met her at Alt Summit and was instantly drawn to her joyful spirit, her warm presence and her hilarious jokes. She’s the kind of person you want to share a bottle (or three) of wine with. And her blog is magnificent. This one can write, y’all. For real. I’m so giddy to have her here today. Blogger Crush: Brandi from not your average ordinary

Do y’all know Brandi? I’m sure many of you do! She’s the blogging dynamo behind not your average ordinary and pizzeles. Which should both become stops on your regular rounds asap. On not your average ordinary, Brandi writes beautifully about her life and is incredibly honest and real. It’s so refreshing. She’s one of those people who just has a good soul. I love people like that, don’t you? Plus she’s a great cook and baker but don’t take my word for it, check out her food specific blog, pizzelles. And if that weren’t enough, she’s also a total sweetheart. And she’s moving to NYC this summer (but not before taking an epic cross country road trip from San Diego to NYC, which will be so exciting to read about). Blogger Crush: Capree of My Adventure is Your Advantage

Did you ever meet someone who you instantly loved? Someone who you wanted to share a bottle of wine (or 12) with and just talk and chat and make each other laugh. That is how I felt when I met Capree at Alt Summit. She is awesome sauce. And we got along like two peas in a pod. And I miss her! So I guess you could say I have a crush on this fine lass. Yes indeed. So besides being one fantastic lady, Capree is one heck of a blogger. She writes the lovely blog My Adventure is Your Advantage which is a celebration of all things modern, but you can also find her being radical at Grassroots Modern, 2Modern Design Talk and Curbly. So yeah, she’s basically an expert on all things mod and she has phenomenal taste. And she’s seriously cool as hell. A million virtual hugs to you my dear Capree. Come back anytime.
