I thought last night’s Mad Men premiere was absolutely effing fantastic. I love that show and am so happy it’s finally back in my life. And the wardrobe stylists, make-up artists, set designers and art directors continue to provide me with lots and lots of eye candy. I’m jealous, that seems like a total dream job. Someone give them a raise! And what do you think of last night’s episode?

p.s. So delighted to see Joan Holloway again! I can’t wait until we learn more about what’s going on in her world.

A Little Piece of Heaven

While in California last weekend, my dear pal I was visiting and I took a little side trip to Calistoga. We stayed at what can only be described as the best hotel ever in the history of the world. Friends, meet Solage. If you ever in the area and you’re in the middle of a life crisis so money is no object, this is the place to stay. The resort is made up of tons of little cottages all connected by pathways. There were two beautiful pools, a spa and a delicious award winning restaurant with a focus on local, sustainable foods. It’s located on a long strip of road with wineries all around. And (my favorite part) upon check in you’re given two beach cruisers to use during your stay for biking around the area and to the wineries. It was amazing. We weren’t exactly in the get out and see the area tourist mode, so we mostly stayed around the resort. It was so lovely we didn’t feel the need to leave. It’s luxurious without being pretentious and there’s soul and charm to the place. Plus the surroundings are so beautiful, and they’ve done a great job of keeping the focus on the natural beauty of the area while still giving you a world class experience. If I’m being honest, I kind of wanted to just stay there forever.

The adorable cruisers were parked in front of our cottage, just waiting to be ridden.

There was a back patio with comfy chairs, a thatched trellis and some lovely flowers.

We ate delicious breakfasts, and the hotel brought bottles of water with fresh mint (a detail yours truly particularly enjoyed).

And, of course, vino. I mean we were in wine country after all.

I admit , we spent most of our time on that back patio. And, when we weren’t there we were relaxing poolside or sleeping.

The Almighty Lady Crush

You already know about all of my many blogger crushes. But what about all my other lady crushes?! We can’t leave them out, can we? There are so many crush worthy gals out there, so be forewarned; I may be back with more of these. Here’s a start though; a collection of beautiful, talented, inspiring women that are the objects of my ooey-gooey crush affection. Enjoy!

1. Tina Fey: Making people who say women aren’t funny feel like idiots. Also saw her on 6th Ave in front of Rockefeller, she is one good lookin’ lady.

2. Kate Winslet: An amazingly talented actress and classically beautiful. I can stare at her for a long time, trying to understand how she looks like that.

3. Minka Kelly: She is just so stinkin’ pretty. And so annoyingly adorable in jeans, cowboy boots and a plaid button up on a recent Friday Night Lights (one of the best shows on tv, btdubs).

4. Keri Russell: I’ve worshiped her since Felicity. She is just so lovely! And effortless style which is a very crushworthy attribute in my opinion.

5. Jessica Hische: She’s a magician with type. I wish I had her vision and inventiveness. So very inspiring. {photo via}

6. Deb of Smitten Kitchen: She is my go to source for recipes because everything she makes is always stellar. I would kill for a healthy does of her cooking chops. {photo via}

7. Elie Krieger: I love her signature healthy approach to cooking. I love that her recipes are still very delicious. And I love the food styling in her cookbooks.

8. Whitney Port: A little embarrassing to admit, yes. But she is so adorably sweet and real and level-headed I can’t help but constantly root for her.

9. Ani DiFranco: I am always moved by her music and her lyrics but seeing her in concert made me fall in love with her even more. She leaves everything on the stage and it’s a beautiful thing to see.

Time is both flying by and moving at snail’s pace. At least it is Friday, at last! Thankfully the weekend is here. I’m just hoping to relax, read my book outside, have a michelada (or 3), go on a bike ride, clean out my closet, get my nails did, etc. Might have to work on Sunday but I’m staying optimistic and hoping that doesn’t happen. What about you? Anything fun cooking up?

Unofficial Start of Summer

Yahoo! Summer begins this weekend. We’re picnic-ing in the park and grilling in the backyard. I’m not sure if I’m more excited about the long weekend or the amazing weather forecast. But either way I’m in a pretty happy mood. I hope I’m able to duck out early and try and find a summery dress or two for this weekend. Happy Memorial Day! I’ll see you back here Tuesday morning.

-I am DYING for a fresh off the grill cheeseburger. Add a scoop of this delicious potato salad and maybe an ear of grilled corn and you’ve got yourself a perfect summer meal. Lay off of me, I’m starving!

-I won something! I donated to We Love Liam and won this print of my choosing from Max Wanger. What a coinkydink, I happen to be very inspired by his beautiful photographs.

-My friend/fellow blogger/all around creative force to be reckoned with Jen (a.k.a Miss Pickles) is heading off on the adventure of a lifetime. She and her husband are packing it all up and taking off in an airstream trailer. Aren’t they the coolest?! You’ll definitely want to bookmark Shiny Aluminum Love.

-This is definitely one of if not my absolute #1 dream kitchen. Someday…

-I am in love with making a few of these little shelves from old books. A perfect place to display all your pointless knick knacks (I have lots).

Did you have a lovely weekend? I surely did. The weather in NYC was pure perfection. We had a dinner date on Friday night at this newly revamped place. It seems a lot of restaurants in our neighborhood are closing down, so we’re going to try and make a point to support them more. Saturday night we went to a birthday party/barbecue which was terribly fun but a late night. So Sunday was spent being lazy and catching up on DVR’ed shows. What sort of trouble did you get into?

Inspiration Folder: Dinosaurs

Well another long week for this freelancin’ gal. I’m on a 6 week job and today marks the half way point. It’s long hours but hopefully I work now and take time off later. That’s the plan anyways. Until then I’m hoping for a work-free, relaxing weekend full of laundry (lame) and birthday parties (cool). On an unrelated note: I’m not sure if it was the very excellent Dinosaur Toes giveaway this week or what, but I am seriously feeling dinosaurs. They are kind of the coolest, don’t you think? And with that, I bid you a happy weekend, pals!
