Mmmmarshmallow

This weekend marked my quickest trip to Atlanta ever in the history of the world. It flew by in a blur of laughter, hugs, games and delicious foods! What fun it is to be with so many people I love (a few key players were missing. obvie). I’m one lucky lady.
For now on this Monday morn, as I trek back to NYC, I’m thinking about attempting to make my own marshmallows. The soft, pillowy bites of sugary goodness are sounding pretty delicious to me. And what about the flavored ones? Yes, please. Have any of you attempted to make your own ‘mellows? If so, what were the results?

Glad you had a great trip. I think you hit town right as the best weather we had seen all month hit.

I’ve been wanting to make my own marshmallows too, but just never get around to it. Let us know how it goes if you do it!

You totally should! Pete and I made some for Christmas and they were delish. We used Alton Brown’s recipe from Food TV. Just a warning: very very messy, but worth it!
Oh, and you need a powerful mix master too…

I’ve never tried homemade marshmallows, much less attempted to make them. They look soooo gooood…

I have made them before! both times from scratch but one froma boxed kit and once on my own from a martha recipe. I highly recommend it because it was easy and super delicious! this is the recipe i used: http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/vanilla-marshmallows

Yes! I’ve made LOADS of them (they make awesome gifts during the winter holidays). I’ve made vanilla, lavender, ginger, coconut, strawberry, orange…they aren’t difficult to make, as long as you have a standing mixer (like a Kitchen Aid) with a whisk attachment. You need something powerful enough to beat it very quickly. And yes, the powdered sugar part can get messy, but hey, crafting gets messy, too.
I’ve used the Martha Stewart recipe as well. It’s a good base recipe and you can work from that. If you make flavored marshmallows, substitute another extract for the vanilla. BUT, start with a small amount of extract and work your way up. Depending on the brand and the flavor used, 1/4 tsp can sometimes be enough.
