Bicycle! Bicycle! I want to ride my bicycle!

HUGE news from the weekend – I purchased a bike of my very own! Hurray. I was all set to plunk down the cash for a new one. But wouldn’t you know it, I found the exact make and model I had been eyeing on craigslist. It’s used so it’s not shiny and pretty, but it was a heck of a lot cheaper. It’s a good way to do a trial run and see how much use I get out of it. I rode it home after making the big purchase – whooeee my legs were tired. I think the bike has a secret plan to reveal how horribly out of shape I am. And it’s doing a swell job. I took another short ride in the park on Saturday and the bike struck again. It is dead set on showing how horribly flabby and non-muscley my legs are. Hopefully that will soon change with the help of my new pal. Here she is (but less new and pretty and more old and grungy).
So, and this will shock you, I am now obsessing over what cute bicycle items I can accessorize with. I’ll need a cute basket ASAP for running errands around the neighborhood. Like any person with eyes (and a soul!) I worship this bike basket and wonder if there has ever been anything more precious in the history of the world.

I’ll need a good bike messenger-y purse and I really should do an entire post devoted to that. But for now, maybe something simple and functional like this.

And now, the great bike helmet debacle. They are painfully dorky, but totally necessary. I’m not the kind of person who would not wear a helmet. And by that I mean I am not a stupid person. Head injuries are very serious and putting on a helmet is so easy, I just don’t get people sometimes. It’s the same type of people who don’t buckle their seatbelts. WTF. Anywho, enough lecturing, here’s a cute-ish helmet that I just may have to purchase.

Have you ever thought about 1154 LILL for your messeger bag (or any other purse/bag/satchel)? They have a bunch of different styles and you pick your own fabric combinations. It’s really fun to do and even better when you get complimented on the street and you can answer “thanks, I designed it myself.” We did it in school and got a bunch of girls together, similar to a Tupperware party. As the hostest, you get additional discounts, which is always nice when shopping. And no, I do not sell for them…

Did you get the Trek bike in the picture? I looked at a Trek Pure in pink yesterday and I’m in love!!!!
