My New Favorite Cocktail for Summer ‘09

And the winner is…

A Michelada!

I had several while in Austin this past weekend and they are a tasty treat. I tried two different varietals. One was at the Hotel San Jose and it was so tasty and clearly made with a lot of tlc. It was a salt rimmed glass filled with ice, lime juice, soy sauce, worcestershire, tabasco, black pepper and topped with a Mexican beer – I like Modelo the best. It was basically a beer topped bloody mary but no tomato juice. Delicious! I did have another version of a Michelada with straight bloody mary mix (Zing Zang is the best bloody mary mix ever and I can’t find it anywhere in Manhattan so I may just have to order a case of it online) and a beer, and it was just as delicious. I recommend trying both ways. I think I’ll be making lots of these this summer. Yum.

    A) Michelada’s are awesome but be wary of those made with Clamato. Barf.
    B) You know Zing Zang is what Watershed uses? They sell it at Ansley Wine Merchants. I will get you some.
    C) I miss you!

    A) I know I am scared of anything with clam juice. For obvious reasons.
    B) I do know that because you told me that you asked at Watershed and that is why I tried it. And that is when my life changed.
    C) No, I miss YOU!

Oh my goodness, I can’t quite get behind the description of the drink–with the soy sauce and all, but you know, anything combined with a good mexican beer sounds delicious!

ok, i would definitely mess up the proportions and end up with a soy sauce mess. but must enlist talented bartender to make one for me, because your shot looks like such limey, peppery goodness!

UGH, I can’t find Zing Zang up in the north east at all. I agree. Best bloody mary mix that exists.
